How to Record a Meeting on iPhone (and Get AI Notes)
To record a meeting on iPhone, put the phone in the middle of the table, start a recording in a meeting recorder app, and stop when the meeting ends. Afterwards an AI app can give you the transcript, a summary and the action items, so nobody has to take minutes. Here is the setup that works, what to say before you press record, and which tool fits which kind of meeting.
Before you record: consent
Recording rules differ between countries and states, and many companies have their own policy. Always say at the start: "I'm recording this so I can share notes afterwards; is everyone OK with that?" It takes five seconds and avoids every awkward situation.
Step by step
- Place the iPhone in the middle of the table, screen up, away from laptops, coffee cups and the air vent. In a large room, put it closest to whoever talks most.
- Start the recording in Audio Notes AI. You can lock the screen; it keeps recording in the background.
- Mark decisions out loud. Saying "decision:" or "action for Sam:" makes the AI summary noticeably cleaner.
- Stop when the meeting ends. For meetings longer than 90 minutes, start a new recording at the break.
- Review in two minutes. Open the note for the summary and action items, then paste them into an email or your team chat.
- Ask follow-up questions in the chat: "What deadline did we agree for the launch?"
What you get after the meeting
- Transcript in 60+ languages (OpenAI Whisper), useful for mixed-language teams.
- Summary you can send as minutes.
- Action items extracted automatically.
- Translation into your language.
- Encrypted sharing: notes are encrypted with AES-256 on your iPhone, and the link expires after 24 hours.
Honest limits: no speaker labels yet, transcription needs internet, and recordings can be up to 90 minutes each.
