60+ languages, and Translate

Use cases

Transcribe any audio recording to text

Meetings, interviews, lectures, voice memos, podcasts and phone recordings all work the same way: upload the file and the speech comes back as text, in the language that was spoken. Most audio and video files your browser can play are accepted, up to 500 MB.

Each format has its own guide: MP3 to text for podcasts and downloads, M4A to text for iPhone Voice Memos, and MP4 to text for meeting and lecture videos. WAV and other uncompressed files work too: large files are converted to compact speech audio in your browser before they are sent, so a long WAV recording uploads quickly.

FAQ

Questions

Updated

Is it free to transcribe audio to text?

Yes. A free account includes 3 notes or 60 minutes of transcription in total, whichever comes first, with summaries, questions and translation included. Pro removes the limit and allows files up to 90 minutes each.

What is the best free audio to text converter?

It depends on what you need. If you want a transcript plus a summary and action items in 60+ languages, Audio Notes AI's free account covers 3 notes or 60 minutes. If you need each speaker labelled, choose a tool that offers speaker labels: ours does not yet.

Do I need to install anything?

No. It runs in Chrome, Edge, Safari and Firefox on a computer. Sign up with your email or Google, then upload a file or press record. There is also an iPhone app.

How accurate is the transcript?

Clear speech from one or two people usually comes out nearly word-perfect. Background noise, music and several people talking at once lower the accuracy, so check names and numbers before you rely on them.

What happens to my audio?

The audio is sent over an encrypted connection to be transcribed and is deleted after processing, always within 24 hours. Your notes are kept in your browser, not on our servers.
