Share a Transcript Securely on iPhone: Expiring Links (2026)
A transcript of a client call, a medical conversation or an HR interview is not something to drop into a group chat forever. Email attachments sit in inboxes for years and ordinary file links stay alive until someone remembers to delete them. A better pattern for sensitive notes is a link that is encrypted before it leaves your phone and stops working on its own. This guide shows how that works in Audio Notes AI, and where its protection ends.
How to Share a Transcript Securely on iPhone
1. Record or import and transcribe
Create the note as usual: record, import audio or video, or share a voice message into the app. Audio is sent to our server for transcription; the note is not shared with anyone until you choose to share it.
2. Share the note as an encrypted link
Choose the share option on the note. Audio Notes AI encrypts the note with AES-256 on your iPhone before upload. The decryption key is placed only in the link you send, in the fragment after the # sign. Browsers never send that part to a web server, so the server stores encrypted content it cannot read.
3. Send the link and let it expire
The recipient opens the link in any browser; no app and no account are needed. After 24 hours the link stops working. The encrypted audio file is deleted when the expired link is next opened, or sooner if you ask us to delete it.
What This Protects, and What It Does Not
| Risk | Covered? | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Note readable on the server | Covered | Encrypted on the phone; the key is only in the link fragment |
| Link works for years | Covered | Expires after 24 hours |
| Link forwarded to someone else | Not covered | Anyone with the full link can open it until it expires |
| Recipient copies the text | Not covered | Once someone has read a note they can copy it |
| Link visible in a shared chat | Not covered | Send it through a channel you trust, not a large group |
A Short Checklist Before You Send
- Share the summary instead of the full transcript when the other person only needs the outcome.
- Send the link in a direct message to the one person who needs it, not in a group.
- Treat the whole link as a password: do not paste it into notes or tickets that others can read.
- Tell the recipient it expires in 24 hours so they read it in time.
The One Thing to Know About Ask AI on Shared Notes
The shared page lets the recipient ask questions about the note. To answer, the text of the note and the question are sent to our AI for that one request. If a recording is so sensitive that even this is not acceptable, share the link only with people who will not use the chat, or share a short summary you have edited yourself.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I share a voice memo transcript securely from my iPhone?
Share the note as a link in Audio Notes AI. It is encrypted with AES-256 on your iPhone before upload and the link expires after 24 hours.
Can Audio Notes AI read the notes I share?
The key is only in the link, and shared content is stored encrypted. If the recipient uses Ask AI, the note text is sent to our AI to answer that question.
How long does a shared link work?
24 hours. The encrypted audio is deleted when the expired link is next opened or when you ask us to delete it.
Does the recipient need the app?
No. The note opens in a browser and is decrypted there.
Can someone else open the link if it is forwarded?
Yes. Anyone with the complete link can open it until it expires, so treat the link like a password.
